Nintendo Switch 2: New leaks reveal a larger design and intriguing details

Another day, another Nintendo Switch 2 leak. As Nintendo gets closer to its goal of announcing the replacement for the Switch by April 2025, new renderings unveiled by OnLeaks and 91Mobiles give us an even clearer vision of what this long-awaited console could look like.

A familiar design, but bigger

If you've been following previous Switch 2 leaks, these new renders won't surprise you. According to OnLeaks and 91Mobiles, the console will feature the same design as the original Switch, but with a slightly larger size, including an 8.4-inch screen. In a small surprise, it appears that the screen will be a OLED panel, although earlier rumors have suggested an LCD screen.

Ergonomic and technological innovations

Looking closer at the renders, we notice several interesting details on the top of the Switch 2:

  1. A power button.
  2. A volume control.
  3. A 3.5mm headphone jack.
  4. A slot for game cards.
  5. A major new feature: a USB-C port.

Another intriguing point is that OnLeaks and 91Mobiles mention the presence of a "sensor" whose function remains unclear. This could be an ambient light sensor or some other innovative technology.

The U-shaped rear support also makes a return, a detail already seen in previous leaks.

Joy-Cons revisited with colorful accents

The Joy-Cons, still detachable, have some interesting changes. The renders reveal a mysterious new button on the right Joy-Con, located above the Home button — although other leaks have suggested a different position, below it. The controllers also incorporate large buttons on the back, likely used to detach them, and would be attached to the console using magnets.

The design of the Joy-Cons also brings a touch of freshness with a bold color scheme :

  1. The left Joy-Con is primarily black with light blue accents.
  2. The right Joy-Con is black with orange accents.

These colorful accents, visible under the joysticks and on the rounded parts of the controllers, recall a previous rendering of a light blue left Joy-Con, unveiled earlier this month. A modern and original aesthetic that should please fans.

An imminent announcement?

With the proliferation of leaks in recent weeks, we can hope that Nintendo will soon make the Switch 2 official (perhaps the Thursday, January 16). However, when it hits the market, it will face fierce competition. But one thing is certain: Nintendo fans are more impatient than ever.

What do you think of these new leaks? Would you be willing to adopt this design for your next console?
