A 4K compatible Nintendo Switch Pro version to be released in 2021

in Info

According to our colleagues at Bloomberg, Nintendo plans to launch an improved model of the Nintendo Switch next year, in addition to a range of new games specially adapted to this model, more powerful and compatible with 4K.

After the Nintendo Switch classic in 2017 and the Nintendo Switch Lite in 2019, Nintendo therefore plans to unveil a third Nintendo Switch model in 2021, more powerful and 4K compatible. At least that is what Takashi Mochizuki, a renowned and often knowledgeable journalist, reports to our colleagues in Bloomberg.

A 4K-compatible Nintendo Switch and new games for 2021

If the technical specifications of this Switch "Pro" are not yet known, Takashi reports that according to several internal sources - who wished to remain anonymous - this new model should benefit from more power, while being compatible with the 4K definition (not native). If the Nintendo Switch continues to sell like hot cakes, the idea here for the Kyoto firm is to be able to compete with the Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series X, slated for the holiday season.

Still according to Takeshi, this new Switch will benefit from the release of a myriad of new Nintendo games, developed internally and externally. Games for " a wide range of gamers, from casual gamers looking for small doses of escape to the most dedicated fans », He reports. This is good news, as apart from a few titles, like Apex Legends in the 4th trimester or Pikmin 3 Deluxe at the end of October, the schedule for new game releases at Nintendo at the end of the year remains relatively thin, in particular because of the health crisis, which also affected the Kyoto firm.

Apart from the (very successful) release of ’Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Nintendo has not yet organized a Nintendo Direct, at least not in the traditional format. Two major Nintendo franchises are currently awaited by fans: Following The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, and Metroid Prime 4, the latter being in development by Retro Studios. These two games should therefore most likely benefit from the increased performance of this new Nintendo Switch and it is only a matter of time before they are unveiled. Alongside a remaster of Super Mario Sunshine ?
