How to play the UNO card game

The Uno card game is a fun board game that is played with a deck of special cards. Here are the basic rules for playing Uno:

Objective of the game: The goal of Uno is to be the first player to get rid of all of their cards by placing them on the discard pile.

Materials needed: A Uno card game, which consists of 108 cards. The cards are of four different colors (red, yellow, green, blue), each with numbers from 0 to 9, as well as special cards: +2, Reverse, Pass Your Turn, and Joker.

Set up : Shuffle the deck well and deal 7 cards to each player. Place the discard pile in the center, with the top card face down next to it. This starting card defines the initial color and number.

Game progress: The player to the left of the dealer starts. Play proceeds clockwise.

  1. Lay a card: The player must play a card from his hand that matches the top card of the discard pile in color or number. For example, if the top card of the pile is a green 7, the player may play a green card or another 7 (regardless of color). Special cards have specific rules (see below).

  2. Special cards: Special cards have special effects:

    • +2: The next player must draw 2 cards and pass their turn.
    • Inversion: The direction of play is reversed, becoming counterclockwise.
    • Pass Your Turn: The next player passes his turn.
    • Joker: This card can be played at any time and allows the player to choose the next color.
  3. Say "Uno": When a player has only one card left in his hand, he must announce "Uno" to signal to the other players that he is about to win. Failure to say so may result in a penalty.

  4. Draw: If a player cannot play a matching card, he must draw a card from the draw deck. If he can play this new card, he can do so immediately. Otherwise, it is the next player's turn.

  5. Earn : The first player to get rid of all their cards by placing them on the discard pile wins the game. The other players total the values of the cards they still have in their hand (number cards count for their numerical value, special cards for 20 points), and these points are added to their total score.

Variants: There are many variations of Uno with special rules. Be sure to clarify the rules with the other players before starting the game.

Uno is a simple and fun card game, ideal for families and friends. It can be adapted to be played with more complex rules depending on the players' preference.
